The Tower House in Kos

is perfect for happy gatherings

Welcome to The Tower House in Kos

Welcome to The Tower House in Kos

Because this villa is so large, it is ideal for multi-generational family celebrations and group holidays.  Groups of families, friends, wedding guests, interest groups, church groups and yoga retreats choose it because of the quality, size and location of the villa.

The villa is just a 15 minute drive from Kos International Airport. It sits on a hillside above Kamari Bay on the South West coast of the island, near the village of Kefalos.

If you are looking to have some time away with friends, or are part of a walking, cycling, painting, creative writing or photography group (to name just a few!) then this is perfect for you.

What is the Villa like?

The Tower House is unique and is not your usual Greek “sugar cube”. It looks like a cluster of traditional Greek buildings, including a windmill tower, a bell tower and 2 churches.

The villa has 7 large bedrooms; each one has its own en-suite, air-conditioning and private balcony or patio with uninterrupted sea views.

The House stands in 3.5 acres of private grounds. Therefore, you will find it quiet and peaceful here. If you enjoy stunning, panoramic views you will not be disappointed – we think we have the best views on the island!  Every window at The Tower House looks out over Kamari Bay where you can watch the boats and windsurfers catching the wind.

It is not easy organising a group holiday…

…but your effort is rewarded because there is nothing better than spending time with those you love. I have no doubt that you will really enjoy your time together at The Tower House! It is a beautiful, private villa, set in 3.5 acres of grounds, designed with space and peace in mind.

Because The Tower House sits majestically on the hillside, you will enjoy the most wonderful panoramic sea views over Kamari Bay. The villa is perfect for a multi-generational family group holiday because it is so large.  There is enough space to get everyone together, yet you will always find a place of solitude when you need it.

If you belong to a hobby club and are looking for a holiday venue, The Tower House is ideal for you, too.  Whatever your interest is church, photography, walking, painting, creative writing, reading or yoga – you will find no shortage of inspiration here!

The Accommodation

On the main floor you will find a very large lounge, with comfortable seating.  You are very welcome to use the Smart TV and iPod docking station.

From here you can step into the large dining room, which in turn opens out onto the spacious terrace. This has stunning sea views and the sun all day long. Also on this floor are the kitchen, 5 of the 7 bedrooms and a library/seating area, so everything you need is on one level. The remaining 2 bedrooms are on the lower level.  Likewise, these have the same dimensions and facilities as the rooms on the main floor.

The large kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need.  You will find a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave/combination oven, large gas oven (90cm) with electric grill and 5 gas burners. There is also plenty of china, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans and utensils.

Location

The villa is an easy 15 minute drive from Kos Airport and we will give you full instructions to find it.  It sits on a hillside 800 metres from the sea and about 3km from the nearest village of Kefalos.  Because of being on a hill, you will love the spectacular, uninterrupted sea views.

Walking down to the beach takes about 10-15 minutes, but it is an uphill stroll coming back!  The Kefalos area has something to please everyone in your group.  For instance, water sports, boat trips, excursions and walks are very popular.  Or for those less energetic, a variety of shops and excellent restaurants and bars line the sea shore.

Many guests say that The Tower House has the best location on the island – and we agree with them!

Mobility

We designed The Tower House to make it easy for those with a disability to make the most of their stay.

There is a gentle slope up to the front door from the car park which provides access for wheelchairs or those who find the step difficult.

The first bedroom and en-suite off the living room is slightly larger than the other bedrooms. The shower area has non-slip tiles, a shower mat and a grab rail (as do all the en-suites). NB: there is a 3″ step-over wall into the shower area.

The living room, dining room, kitchen, terrace, library/games area and 5 of the bedrooms are on this main floor. Access to the garden and pool area does not involve any steps.

Whatever you are interested in, you will find something to enjoy during your stay on Kos.

If you love the water, you will love the great choice of beautiful beaches. Those on the south side are crystal clear and clean. Kamari Bay, Paradise Beach, Camel, Markos, Sunny and Magic Beaches all have beautiful soft sand, sunbeds for hire and tavernas nearby for refreshments. These beaches are also great for snorkelling and watersports (jet ski, parascending, ringos, water skiing etc). The beaches on the north coast are generally shallower and therefore slightly warmer. However, they face the prevailing north wind and therefore have some seaweed.

There are 2 fantastic Waterparks on the island with a wide range of slides. There are rides suitable for those who prefer a gentle thrill and those who like to ride on adrenalin!

As you wander around you will find a lot of antiquity on Kos. Hippocrates, the first Father of Medicine was born here (remember the Hippocratic Oath that doctors take, even today?)  Apparently he used to teach his medicinal theories under a tree in Kos Town. “Hippcrates Tree” as it is known, is huge and is now held up by a frame. The Asklepion is the first “hospital” of the world, a huge and impressive historic site which enjoys fantastic views across to Turkey.  The pillars of the ancient Agora, the Odeon, Hippocrates Tree, and castles of Knights of St John are also worth visiting.

The boat trips to the neighbouring islands of Kalymnos, Nissyros and Pserimos are highly recommended.  Nissyros is the volcanic island you can see from The Tower House. This is definitely worth a visit as you can go right inside the crater. James Bond fans may be interested to know that some of Goldfinger was filmed here.  Kos Town is just 5 miles from Turkey by boat.  Day trips to Turkey Bodrum are great for bargain retail therapy – but beware of the genuine fakes!

If you have the energy, there are lots of great walks to enjoy.  On Kefalos peninsula we recommend St John’s Monastery and White Rock Cave, where a skeleton of a neolithic man was discovered.  If you like heights, the summit of the island, Oros Dikeos is worth the climb.

Palio Pyli is a camouflaged, abandoned village in the mountains with quite a history.  It is quite a climb, but worth the effort. For more gentle walks, explore Zia, Asfendiou and Lagoudi, beautiful, colourful mountain villages.

Eating out is a big part of most people’s holidays, and you will find no shortage of great food here.  Most of the tavernas are family run and offer Greek and international cuisine. There is live entertainment, Greek dancing, a couple of (soundproofed) nightclubs and a range of family and sport-orientated bars.

Kefalos Z Tours, Asklipios Tours and JD Tours offer excursions and they will be delighted to help you organise days out to suit your whole group. There is a wide range of trips on offer. They are ideal if you are not keen on driving, or want some adventure.  We have a Honey producer not far from The Tower House where you can taste and purchase different honeys.  If wine is more your thing, then head over to our local vineyard where you can do wine-tastings and buy your favourites.

Yes, it’s true, for some of us no holiday is complete without some retail therapy!  The jewellery in Kos is fantastic; the designs and quality are wonderful.  You will find very high-end jewellers in Kos Town, but for hand-made, favourites are “The Spinning Wheel” in Zia and “Ria & Remko” in Pyli.  A gentleman called Dimitri runs a hand made gold and silver jewellery shop on the harbour road at Kefalos which is also well worth a visit.  The minimum gold quality in Greece is usually 14 carat.

If you’re looking for “genuine fakes” then a day trip to Bodrum is for you, but remember that you will need $20 (yes, American dollars!) for a day visa.

If you are planning on getting married on Kos, The Tower House offers you wonderful accommodation for you and/or your guests.  We can put you in touch with a great Wedding Planner who will ensure that your dream day comes true.  Just message me!
